Ebb & Flow: Wild Waters

A Solo Exhibition by Laura Callaghan

4 February – 1 March 2026 | The Grange Art Gallery, Rottingdean, Brighton, East Sussex.

I’m delighted to share details of my solo exhibition, Ebb & Flow: Wild Waters, opening February at The Grange Art Gallery in Rottingdean, Brighton.

This new body of work has been shaped by time spent observing the coast through winter and early spring — a season of quiet shifts, resilience, and subtle transformation. The exhibition explores the rhythms of tide and season, the influence of the moon, and the changing relationship between land and sea.

Rooted in coastal ecology and ecofeminist ideas, Ebb & Flow: Wild Waters reflects on cycles of erosion and renewal, fragility and strength. The works draw on materials, textures, and processes inspired by the shoreline, revealing hidden worlds within our familiar coastal landscapes.

🌊 About the Exhibition

The paintings in Ebb & Flow: Wild Waters respond to the wild intelligence of water — how it shapes environments, memories, and bodies over time. Some works are expansive and gestural, others intimate and layered, inviting close looking.

Together, they ask how we might better attune ourselves to natural cycles, and what it means to live alongside water in a time of environmental change.

Works in the exhibition will be available for purchase.

🧤 Beach Clean to Gallery: Shore-to-Show Session

With The Deans Beach & Environment Volunteers
Sunday 1 March · 11.30am – 1.30pm
Suitable for all ages.

Begin the day on Rottingdean’s shoreline with a hands-on beach clean, exploring the hidden life of the coast while helping to care for our precious environment.

As part of the session, participants are invited to select a piece of plastic marine waste to be reimagined as art. The person who chooses the most inspiring find will receive an original painting by Laura Callaghan.

After the beach clean (11.30am–12.30pm), participants are encouraged to walk up from the seafront to The Grange Art Gallery for the exhibition opening at 1.00pm, bringing their chosen piece of plastic with them — carrying the story of the shoreline into the gallery space.

Full details of all talks and events will be shared via my website and social media. A complete events listing will also be available as a flyer at the exhibition.
