The Water Gave Us Wayfinding

£59.50

The Water Gave Us Wayfinding is painted onto a washed-up shoe recovered from Brighton beach. Designed to carry a body through the world, the found object becomes a meditation on movement, navigation, wandering, and uncertain journeys.

The title references wayfinding: navigating through tides, memory, intuition, observation, and relationship to place. Detached from its owner and original purpose, the shoe holds traces of an unknown journey while becoming, through the language of seascape, a quieter reflection on how the coast helps us orient ourselves.

For me, the sea is often a place of recalibration. Not a place that offers fixed directions, but one that teaches another way of finding them.
