Painted onto a discarded DaFin swim fin recovered from the Sussex shoreline, this work explores movement, memory and our enduring relationship with the sea.

Designed to propel swimmers through water, the fin now becomes a surface for a painted horizon. Its original function is not erased but reimagined, inviting reflection on where we have travelled, what we leave behind, and what the sea eventually returns to us.

The work forms part of The Water Gave Us Gifts, a collection of paintings created on recovered marine debris and salvaged coastal objects. Each piece acknowledges both the environmental impact of human activity and the extraordinary capacity for beauty, transformation and hope that can arise through acts of careful attention.
