Every Breath We Take

£6,995.00

This large-scale triptych reflects on the unseen yet essential life within our seas : the microscopic phytoplankton that drift through Sussex waters and oceans worldwide. Found in abundance off our coastline, these tiny organisms bloom in spring and late summer, tinting the sea with hues of turquoise and green as sunlight meets chlorophyll.

Phytoplankton are responsible for producing around half of the Earth’s oxygen: each breath we take is a quiet exchange with the sea.

This work, made using seawater and marine debris collected from Sussex beaches, echoes the satellite patterns of phytoplankton blooms: shifting, luminous, and alive. It invites reflection on the fragile balance between human life and ocean health, here and across the planet.
